Public Education

We all know it at some level; our current system of public education is dismal, frankly. Kids are coming out with no hope of operating productively in the world. They can't read, multiply, or think critically in any meaningful way. We, being Americans, have a knee-jerk reaction; "More money!" We need better computers, bigger libraries, blah, blah. These aren't bad things, obviously, but they're not the answer. As far as I can tell, teachers hate their jobs. Their pay sucks, they have to deal with the brattiest beings ever produced from a womb, and they get harped on constantly by parents who are just as bratty. We need to return the position of teacher to the top. Make it the premier position in the country. Devote all the educational resources we have to their salaries, and attract the best publishing doctorates in the world to the positions of teaching our children. No more of this random person off the street crap. THE BEST! Obviously these people wouldn't be attracted by money alone; this would take a national shift in attitude; we would all need to give teachers our highest respect, as they deserve now. It would be immensely difficult, but we must motivate these people somehow. Of course, you could also give the job of teaching your kids to the people who are already heavily invested and motivated; yourselves. (Don't tell anybody, but that means homeschooling.) That's what my parents did for much of my life, and it instilled in me a love of learning that remains to this day. Think over it. Make something happen.
